First ever Junior Championship was held in 2008. This year Croatia will host under 17 Beach Handball EURO, where 15 teams in the men’s category and 12 in women’s will try to top the podium. Spain in the men’s and the Netherlands in women’s competition will defend their European crown from U16 EURO in Portugal.

Last year, the EURO was held in the Portuguese town Nazare which has hosted the highest number of participants ever. It was the first European Championship for players under 16. There were 32 teams, 16 teams in men’s and 16 in women’s competition.

In the final match, the Spanish men’s team beat Portugal while the Dutch women’s team won gold medal against Spain. Portugal in women’s and Italy in the men’s event won bronze medal.

Spanish Lloret de Mar hosted the U19 Junior European Championships in 2015. Hungarian women’s team took their third consecutive title in a row while the Russian team was the best in men’s event. The Croatian junior team lost against Russian team after the shoot-out in the final match.

In 2013, Denmark took the organizational role. Hungarian teams have dominated and won double crown, in men’s and women’s competition.

Croatia has hosted the U19 European Championships for the first time in 2011. In the women’s final match, Hungary beat Russia, while Croatia took the first place in the men’s event against Russia. A women’s team of Croatia won the third place.
