Second day of the European Championship provided a lot of excitement. Spectators could enjoy in the performance, actions and attractions on the sand of the beach handball players.
Croatia and Spain played an intense and diverting match in the women’s event which has finished after the equal minutes, in a shoot-out (30:16, 15:16, 7:4). Croatian player Lucija Kelava will remember this victory forever: „Our first set was amazing. We lost the second one, but finally we won. This win against the current world champions is one of the most important for me.“ Spanish player Cano Dominguez said: „Competitors at this EURO are quality teams with specific skills on the sand. It will be hard to reach the semi-finals, but we will try to do it“.
Danish women’s team has returned on the European scene after four years. Although the other teams have improved their skills, Danish expectations are high. In their first match on the second day of the EURO, women’s team Denmark won the match against Germany with 2:0 in sets. Danish Melanie Fuglsbjerg was happy: „We kept our tactic, our defence was very strong, our goalkeeper got some great saves and the attack was calm and really good. We played the way we want to play. We have the team fighting spirit to win much more matches“.
In the men’s event, team Norway beat team Sweden with 2:0 in the last seconds in two sets (17:16, 20:16). Norwegian player Mathias Risoy was highly satisfied after his team reached the new points at the EURO: „It was a great game, especially because we lost the match before. Croatia is the favorite to win the gold medal, but other teams are also good“.
Matches which are cancelled today because of the bad weather conditions will be played tomorrow, 22th of June, starting at 10 am.
