Spectacular sports event has started. There were 30 matches in the men’s and in the women’s event on the first day of European Championship.
Croatian men’s team will try to win the fifth European crown in a row. On the first day of the EURO, they played and won three matches. In the first match, Croatia opened the Championship with team Serbia with 2:0 (22:18, 25:22) and in the second match, they were better than France with also 2:0 in sets (17:14, 28:18).
The last match Croatia has played today was against Sweden. They won after the shoot-out with 2:1 in sets (24:14, 22:24, 7:6). Player Valentino Valentaković commented: „We had three matches today, but we did a really good preparation period. It’s hard to say who was our hardest opponent today, but we always want to reach points. Tomorrow, team Switzerland will be our rival. I think that we are a better team and we need the victory against them“.
Current European Championship in the women’s event, team Hungary came at this EURO in a different and rejuvanated composition than the last two times when they won European crown. Player Szabina Tapai is a debutant at this EURO who couldn’t hide her excitement: „I am so happy, current EURO competition is a very important part of my life. Almost the whole team is playing major competition here for the first time. We want to achive as much victories as possible“, stated Hungarian player Tapai.
French men’s team wrote the history by playing the first match ever at the European Championship. Most of their players, play indoor and beach handball, so they didn’t have enough time for preparation. Although they lost the match against Croatia (14:17, 18:28), their feelings about the EURO are positive.
French goalkeeper Patrice Annonay played the indoor handball for the PSG until the last year and now, he demonstrated his skills on the sand. “We started the match good, but Croatia is a great team. In France, beach handball is not so popular, but I hope it’s will be changed“, Annonay said.
